HEIC stores high-quality photos efficiently, but some websites, email workflows, document tools and older applications still reject it. JPG is supported far more broadly and is usually easier to upload, share and edit. Conversion changes the container and encoding rather than improving the original photo, so keep the HEIC source as the archival copy.
Balanced is a practical starting point for most photographs, Lighter reduces transfer size further and High quality keeps more detail. Original size preserves the decoded resolution; a smaller maximum side can be useful for websites, forms and email attachments. JPG is lossy, so the conversion removes some image information and the result size varies with detail, noise and the chosen dimensions.
Riducly creates the JPG from decoded still-image pixels. EXIF details such as camera data and location are not copied, and additional images, depth information or Live Photo motion in the source container are not preserved. This can be useful for a clean sharing copy, but it means the converted JPG should not replace the original when metadata or motion matters.
