Both PNG and WebP support an alpha channel, and Riducly retains transparent pixels when converting between them. Logos, product cut-outs, icons and interface assets can therefore keep transparent edges. Always inspect the result around fine semi-transparent shadows and edges, especially when resizing, because the output is newly rasterized and encoded rather than copied directly.
Lighter and Balanced create lossy WebP output to reduce size by removing controlled visual information. High quality uses lossless WebP, preserving decoded pixels but sometimes producing a larger file. A WebP is not automatically smaller than every PNG: simple, already optimized graphics may favor PNG, while photographic or complex images often give WebP more room to reduce weight.
WebP is widely supported by current browsers and can serve both photographic and transparent web assets. Converting heavy PNG exports can reduce page transfer, but browser support is only one part of performance: choose appropriate pixel dimensions, responsive markup and effective caching as well. Keep the original PNG for editing tools or workflows that do not accept WebP.
